Welcome back to the Energy Fix, a podcast dedicated to help you balance your energetic body by diving deep into the sweet world of all things health and spirituality. My name's Tansy and I'm an intuitive crystal Reiki energy healer, energetic nutrition and holistic health practitioner, and a crystal jewelry designer. It's time to talk all things energy. Let's dive in. Welcome back.
Today we're going to be talking about a concept that people, so many people crave, but don't always know how to actually find it. And that is spirituality that actually feels grounded in real life. I'm not talking about the floaty, the bypassy, or the pretend like everything is light and love.
while your entire life feels like it's chaotic, or maybe your inbox is feeling like it is on fire. That's not the energy I'm talking about. I'm talking about the kind of spirituality that you can bring into your work, into your business, your relationships, into a random Tuesday afternoon, if you're having a meltdown and you know that you can connect into this energy to get grounded and to feel back in your body.
My guest today is Candice Van Dertholen She is a holistic practitioner and certified Reiki master who works right at the intersection of mind, body, and spirit. Her work is all about helping people reconnect with themselves during those big pivotal life transitions, especially when the old version of you doesn't really fit anymore, but the new one isn't quite fully formed yet and you're just hanging out in between and not sure what to do.
Candice teaches something she calls grounded spirituality. She takes the spiritual connection and she bridges it into the life that you're living now instead of using it to check out or to escape from. And honestly, this was one of the things that her and I really bonded over because that is very much where I feel like I am at in the work that I do. So it was so great.
Tansy Rodgers (02:27.736)
to talk with Candice and to understand that we were still speaking the same language. In this conversation, we're gonna get into what grounded spirituality actually looks like in real time, especially when life is messy and feeling chaotic. We're gonna talk about how to approach healing in a way that isn't just more self-criticism, just dressed up fancy and looking like it is personal growth.
And one of my favorites, we're going to be talking about how to connect with the energy of your business, like it's its own living, breathing collaborator, because that's exactly what it is. And when you can learn that, you can really expand in huge ways. We also talk about how her own life, being a military spouse, a mom and a stepmom, and serving on boards for death education and military spouses,
has shaped the way that she holds space for people who are navigating change, grief, and reinvention. If you've ever felt spiritually curious but turned off by the performative love and light only version, or it's you're running a business and suspect there's more going on under the surface than strategy and spreadsheets, this one is going to give you some real ways
to listen to your own energy and to expand in a personal way. Expand bigger than maybe you're even feeling like you're able to expand now. All right, let's get into this conversation. Here is Candice. Let's dive in.
Tansy Rodgers (04:10.039)
Welcome to the Energy Fix Podcast. Candice, thank you so much for being here today.
my gosh, I'm so grateful for this conversation ahead. Like so grateful.
know we're going to be talking about one of my favorite topics which is energy. All things energy and so I I'm really excited to hear your take on this. This is what I talk about all the time. I'm excited to hear your take. I'm excited to hear where we dive into in this conversation and I'm just excited to get to connect with your energy again. You know we connected via LinkedIn.
not too long ago and it was such a beautiful connection. I just enjoy your energy so much and I think that you're going to bring so much value and insight to today.
my gosh, that just feels like such a warm hug and so much love. So I felt absolutely the same way. Like, you know, when you just meet people and you're like, they're my people, they get it. They, they want to see the world a better place and they emanate that energy. So I feel the same, my friend.
Tansy Rodgers (05:14.732)
Yeah, I love it. love it. Well, Candace, before we really get into this conversation, let's talk a little bit about you. Let's get to know you a little deeper. Is there a word or a phrase that you're really embodying in this season of your life?
Okay, so this phrase that I'm about to use came from actually, it was formulated from an astrology class that I'm in, where the instructor was talking about astrology being a language. And what I've been able to do is really pull that into the work that I do, which is embodying that energy is a language that we are learning.
And so, and so I love that. I love that because it's such an important topic. But how do you start to connect that into real life? How do you bring that into your everyday? Is there certain rituals or practices or mantras or what do you do?
Yes. So only in this last couple of years have I really been embodying the truth of who I am. And so each day I really tune into my energy and I really speak this language back and forth with my soul of I am worthy. I am honored to be here. It is a blessing to be here on this earth, even while all the world is doing what it's doing.
And so I really ground into my experience each morning and tune into my energy and tune into my higher self and really ask to be guided on what I need to do within the day. Like it's, it's something that again, I've had to practice over and over and it evolves and it grows with me. And, know, he really put language to what I was doing. And I was like, my gosh, energy is literally a language that we are.
Candice Van Dertholen (07:13.358)
tuning into that we're learning for the first time sometimes. so, yeah, so the ability to really tune into it is something that I practice each morning.
And our energy defines who we are and how we interact with the world and how we interact with life. And so being purposeful with that, I think is such a gift that you've realized that connection is that important.
Yeah, absolutely. Well, and that it shifts and evolves and grows with us is something that I really hope people hear because they think that we think we're going to feel the same energy every single day. And we don't. We feel different things at different points of the day and different emotions and different shifts. And they're all signals that we are either in alignment or out of alignment, learning something, moving through something. And so the moment we can tune into that.
I think we can really transform the way we show up in our world.
Absolutely. I love it. We're gonna get back into this conversation in just a second, but I want to remind you of a couple ways that you can get extra support from me outside of this podcast, especially heading into the holidays. First, if you've been eyeing my jewelry and thinking, okay, but I wish there was a piece designed just for XYZ. That's literally what my custom crystal bracelets are for.
Tansy Rodgers (08:44.248)
We look at what you're navigating, may it be stress, grief, gut issues, boundaries, burnouts, whatever it is. And I design a piece with specific stones, numerology, and intention to support your personal energy. It's like having a tiny wearable alder on your wrist that just travels with you into family gatherings, work, and all of the holiday chaos. And if your nervous system has been riding the edge lately,
This is also a really good time to book a healing session with me. Crystal Reiki, energy work, and nervous system support really help to regulate you and help you to stay calmer, clearer, and more grounded instead of white-knuckling it this entire holiday season. You can jump on over to beucrystals.com to shop my crystal jewelry and any custom pieces.
You can also reach out to me directly if you want to make a custom crystal bracelet. I do have a limited supply that I am putting out there for this season. You can also head on over to tansyrodgers.com to book a healing session and any coaching through me there. Both links are down in the show notes. So just jump on down and tap on that link after you're done listening to this episode.
Well, let's learn a little bit more about you and your journey and how you got to where you're at now. Tell us a little bit about how you got here, what your journey has looked like, and why you're so passionate about this work that you're doing.
my goodness. So my journey has been such a lifelong journey of acceptance and non-acceptance of myself. And I say that because I spent most of my lifetime up until my thirties really living my life based on other people's expectations. I was measuring myself against people. didn't even like, we didn't even have the same life. So
Candice Van Dertholen (10:46.178)
I struggled with mental health very early on in my childhood. Looking back, I can see why, but I never really had the help and support I needed throughout my life. It was just, kind of get through it, you tough it out. And I was really, really struggling. And what got me into this work was a pivotal moment in my life 10 years ago, almost to the day.
I was well not to the day, but anyways, so almost 10 years ago, I nearly succeeded in taking my life and I was just in this really low place. I woke up in the hospital. I had direct dialysis to my heart. I physically did not want to be here and that's hard to say because I'm a mom and so I harbored so much guilt like for a long time afterwards that I had to work through those layers, but
I was just so broken and I didn't even recognize the low point I was in. And all I remember is waking up knowing I never wanted to be there again. And I'm very fortunate that my kids were not there so they didn't witness any of this, but it was still something that I woke up into and realized, man, I've got to get work. I've got to figure this out because I cannot keep doing this.
And I would, I would say I suffered from a suicidal depression most of my life. It's been, it had been on and off. And so I started in therapy and doing things in that realm and was medicated for a little bit and worked on a lot of the trauma that I had gone through in my life, like big T trauma, little T, all of it. And I got myself to a certain point and then COVID happened and it was
Also the year that we would move. So my current husband and I would move into a whole new environment. And as we were moving, I did this Google search on my previous spouse, cause I knew we would be heading where he was. And it just to backstory, he was very abusive, very emotionally, mentally, physically. And so there was a part of me that was in fear that I would cross his path again. Well, what I found was his obituary.
Candice Van Dertholen (13:06.624)
And so he had taken his life during that time period. And so I had this whole unraveling all over again that I had to work through again. All of the feelings, all of the emotions and process. was, you know, questioning, was this my fault? Did I, you know, because they always say if you leave, then this will happen. And so I really kind of had another breaking point, even though it didn't take me all the way off it like before, it was just
I knew in that moment I needed something more to help me move through everything I was experiencing. And so I ended up by chance meeting my practitioner. Now, it wasn't my first time to be introduced to the concept of energy work or anything like that, but I just had never really looked into it as a practice. And so I, you know, after my first session, I was like, my gosh, this is the missing piece.
This is something that I need to learn how to do and share with the world because it has literally made me feel better. And why that was is because it was the first time in my life that I truly felt deep love, compassion, understanding for who I am as a person without any conditions. And I don't say that lightly because I love my husband. He loves me. I love my parents.
and my children and everything, but this was a different experience. I just didn't realize that I was supported, that I was loved, and that I could literally have support at any given moment that I wanted it. And so very foreign concept for me. And so I was just on a mission from there to figure out how to learn this practice, make it accessible, make people understand the power behind it, because it was literally the only thing that moved me through.
and beyond everything that I had experienced in my life because it wouldn't be too much longer after that, like that move the following year, my kid's father would pass away. So it was all this stuff happening all at the same time. And so that's kind of where I knew I needed higher support and I just didn't know what it looked like. Yeah.
Tansy Rodgers (15:29.122)
Wow, wow, which I mean, really that is so your process is so much about stepping out of that, that place that so many of us get stuck in of performing and you stepping into this place of pure grounded presence. And we're going to be talking about grounded spirituality today, but it feels like that was almost that bridge that
allowed you to step over and step into this new way of seeing and experiencing life. Do you feel like that was also a turning point for you in how you felt about your own life and about wanting to be here or wanting to experience what you were experiencing?
Yeah, it was. It was the very first time that I was, well, I'd say that's the second time I was able to really look at my life. The first time was when I very first started doing inner work to begin with, because I think that some of the most challenging aspects of doing this kind of work is having to see yourself fully and the acceptance piece of it. Because I know for myself, like I didn't like everything I saw. I didn't like the depression. I didn't like the anxiety. didn't like
you know, the, the place I was in and that was really hard to accept. And I had to get over that. I had to move through that and just really take an even further step outside of my experience to look at where was the root cause of all of this. And I wouldn't do that work until, you know, five years later, when I had all of this stuff going on and I was like, okay, I've got to figure something else out so that I can, I can move through life. And it,
the, what I would say is it gave me a different appreciation for who I am as who I am and for even the lived experiences that I had had. Now that's not something I say lightly because I've been through so many different forms of trauma in my, in my lifetime, but I was able to actually walk through it and not feel afraid or re trigger myself or feel the heaviness.
Candice Van Dertholen (17:50.68)
that I often felt in other practices that I would try to move through these. like I'm a huge, I love therapy. Therapy is an amazing tool. And I work with several therapists, but I, for me, I needed that next layer of, here's what I'm going through now. Now I get to remove it from my life. And so I would say, yes, absolutely. It gave me a different understanding of myself and then the world around me. And
It really made me kind of slow down long enough to see all of that to begin with.
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well, when you check in with yourself now after going through that, learning that, experiencing that, having the shift in perception, when you really check in with yourself now, what is a sensation or something within your body or your awareness that really tells you that you're here in presence and not getting lifted outside into that inauthentic
that inauthenticity.
Yeah, so one of the things that I love about the practice that I've like really brought forward is that I do stay grounded. I experience the hard things. I don't minimize them anymore. I don't shove them in the depths of me. I don't push them away under the rug. And I'm really aware that life happens. And so I can't bypass things, which is what I used to do.
Candice Van Dertholen (19:25.27)
And that's one of the reasons why I really came up with the term grounded spirituality is because in my experience, I was noticing that people as a whole think that spirituality is all the light and fluffy and the up here when yes, it's great up here, but we were really gifted the opportunity to be here. And so we have to learn how to bridge the two. And it always starts with feeling safe here, which is what
so many of us don't feel and it's not only just safety within our environment, but our body, you know? And so what I was noticing is, you know, when people seek a spiritual experience to escape this embodiment, they're sure you can feel the high of being up here and spiritual and it's great and all the D's, right? All the planes of existence. But then when you come back here, it doesn't fulfill you.
the same way. And so if you can learn how to be here and just work through these layers of experience, and I'm not saying it's always easy, but if you can and you choose to do that work, then you experience the entirety of life. So your physical presence here, your spiritual connection, and you remember the divinity of the self, which then holds compassion for others. And what does that do? That changes our world.
It changes all within our home first, our home meaning us, and then our home environment, and then our community, and then it just keeps going. And so for me, how I stay here is the realization that it's a gift to be here. And that is not something that I always felt.
I love that. I have been having this conversation so much in my own world. You know, I've had multiple spiritual awakenings throughout my life and each one brings its own little flick of flavor into whatever is going on. I've noticed this latest one where I've gone into this place of a deeper expansion.
Tansy Rodgers (21:41.834)
I spent a large amount of time in so much deep spirituality and learning everything I could get my hands on and listening to all the podcasts and reading all the books and doing all of the, I don't want to say I was necessarily spiritual bypassing, but I was not taking into account real life human living, right? And so I feel like lately,
I've had to question myself. I feel like over the past maybe two years I really have noticed now, wow, yes all that stuff is great, all of that is important, but I am at this new level within my human body. Like I'm experiencing the human life in a completely different way.
and don't feel like my head, my body, my being is in this airy, floaty place quite as much. Is that describing a little bit about what you're talking when it comes to the grounded spirituality and just being present in the body, but also connecting into the higher realm of consciousness?
Yes. And so it's exactly that. And you're one of many of us that have felt that shift. There's a couple of really intuitive, great people that I have followed over the years who took kind of a hiatus in 2023-ish, I think. And they really took time away to experience what it was like to be back here. Because, you know, it's great when you can...
feel into your spiritual community. trust me, I love it. It is amazing. And there's nothing wrong with gathering with like minds to do spiritual work. And we have to learn how to again, bring it into our everyday life, which is so important because we do live here. We live here and now. And one thing that I've also learned in my practice and in working with clients is that when
Candice Van Dertholen (23:53.076)
authority has failed us in the past. It's really hard to trust in the truest form of divinity, right? And I mean, not even looking outside of ourselves. So let me go back. We've been taught to look outside of ourselves for everything. So it is natural that we even want to seek a spiritual experience to help us feel whole. So when we can remember that we are whole as we are,
then we can deepen our spiritual practices as a whole together. And going back to building divine trust, divine trust to me looks like showing up in your life, knowing that no matter what decision you need to make, it is going to take you on the path forward and that you are supported and guided always. And that you don't have to over effort that you are co-creating, which again, when authority in our life.
has not measured up to what we needed or what we felt we needed. It's really hard to believe in that support. It's really hard to believe in that divine love because we haven't experienced it. And so I think that's one reason why people can tend to lean more into the clouds because it is so much love. It is so much light and it is amazing and beautiful. And so it's how do we capture that essence that is literally us?
Right. It's literally us in this physical being too, and help us bring that energy in to remember that it is always flowing within us. And it's just been stored away. It's just been forgotten. And so when we can do that, we then remember and we start being okay to be here because then we start seeing it in others. I know one of the biggest shifts for me was that the moment that I started being here more,
and being able to like look at the people around me, I actually started feeling hope again. And that was the biggest thing that I was missing in my life was hope. was like, man, the world is so crazy. Like 2020, that was nuts, right? And we're still coming out of that. And yet in this last year and a half, I have seen more hope than I can even recount in my entire being because we're just choosing to see one another finally.
Candice Van Dertholen (26:13.964)
And we can only do that if we're here.
Yeah, I have so much to say to that. So first off, 2023, I agree with you. I feel like so many of the people that I follow too, started to shift and transition into different ways of speaking, different ways of presenting and being and coming out into the world, right? So that definitely feels very lined up. The other thing that I'll say to that too is we can't really truly feel
hope and compassion and all of these incredible emotions that actually elevate us into a deeper spirituality without being here in our body. We can't because when we're so elevated and we're up in the, I guess I shouldn't say up in the clouds when it comes to spirituality, right? Like that's probably the wrong word, but you know what I mean? Like when we're really searching and hoping and.
and extending our power outside of us and looking for something greater than ourselves, which by the way, I think is fantastic and it's part of the process. But when we're doing that, we're really disconnecting and isolating ourselves from our relationships and from other people and from the pieces that actually help us grow spiritually, not just from the podcast and the information.
Yeah. my gosh. Yeah. It's that expansion, right? It's the divine connection that we all carry and the ability to remember it and to experience it here. I had somebody ask me the other day, they were like, so you believe in all this stuff and it's great. And he's like, so why are we here? And I was like, you know, I actually don't have the answer to that. I was like, I've been searching for it my entire life. If I could figure that out, I'd be great.
Candice Van Dertholen (28:10.774)
I said, and at the same time, I know what we are here for and what we're not doing. And I was like, we're here to, to like love one another and to experience life and to feel into the earth and to be here and be just in this state of learning and growing and an expansion. And we're not really doing a great job of that. However, there is still hope to do it.
And we're seeing it more and more in the communities and our direct communities of people recognizing the need to be together again. And so while I question all the time, I'm like, are we just here squirreling around as entertainment? Like, what is the point? I don't know. But what if we just enjoyed this life and truly came back to that sense of knowing that we're safe, we're
We are loved and start supporting one another in the same way.
Mm, I love that. I love that. Let's talk about that word bypassing that you brought up earlier and I brought up once or twice here. What is a subtle flag that you noticed when somebody's spiritual practice really has turned into this elegant avoidance, also known as maybe spiritual bypassing or maybe some other terms that are associated? What have you seen that maybe
the common person might not even realize that they're doing.
Candice Van Dertholen (29:45.976)
Well, I would say any time that you, well, I don't know if it's any time, but I would say if all of your spiritual practices always feel light and fluffy, because most spiritual work that I've done has been quite the opposite in the beginning and almost like, did I sign up for this? Like, what was I getting myself into? Because you're working through,
If you're not working through your life experiences and all you are experiencing is the light, then that is one signal because this work in my experience is the, I wouldn't say the buffer, it's like the warmness that we need, the support that we need to walk through those experiences.
And so it should be a guiding light. You should be able to go into the darkness, into the shadow, whatever you want to label and be able to move through that and see it from a new perspective. And sometimes the beginning is the hardest because it's the first time you're doing it. And so you're like seeing, and I do believe that we, work through this in layers because the universe, the divine knows
how much we can handle at one given moment. So it's not like you have to go through the whole thing in one session, right? Probably not gonna get there, but doing it for the first time feels uneasy because you feel the emotions for the first time. So you're crying, your anger is coming forward, you're, you know, feeling every single thing and it actually feels really good when you're done. It's just, that's part of that processing. So I guess I could say it better is like,
If you're processing and feeling better, then that's how you know you're not bypassing. But if you're not looking at anything more than likely, you could be. And I mean, it's not that you can't experience a very calming meditation or something that's spiritual that doesn't take you down that path. But if it's always this way and you're not moving through, you're not moving through things. So
Candice Van Dertholen (31:58.688)
AKA you're seeing the same patterns and cycles in your life and you're like, why do I keep seeing this? Why do I keep dating that same person? Why do I keep having the same boss that doesn't appreciate me and takes advantage of me? Those are signals you're not doing the inner work.
Yeah. And so, okay, let's expand on that a little bit. So we're evolving, we're moving into this new identity of ourselves and we're working on the shadow work. We're working on not spiritually bypassing. We're working on this grounded spirituality, right? That liminal space right in between where you're at now and the new identity that you're trying to step into. What have you seen? What mistake?
most prolongs the suffering. And also, what do you invite somebody to do instead so that they're able to continue to move forward and not bypass the situation because it's uncomfortable or they're not used to vulnerability?
Yeah. So I would say, you know, in this state of my journey, I'm not here to convince anybody to do things differently. I will support people and show them there is a different way, but I truly feel that you have to be ready to fully be ready to do the work. And I, what I will say is that I offer that guidance of understanding that it's not hard. Like we always say it's hard work and it is, it is a little bit heavy, but the biggest thing is like,
you will feel so much better by going through the things that you need to and just seeing them for the, for the fullness that they offer, because there's a lot of things that we hold on to that all it takes is the acknowledgement side of it. And half of it is the acknowledgement to move through. And so I would say that, you know, I think the quote unquote mistake that people make is that
Candice Van Dertholen (34:01.23)
they don't realize that they can be vulnerable, that they feel like they have to shoulder this alone, that they feel like, if I ask for this help, then I am weak. And so I think that we come into this work when we're ready. I truly feel like it has to be a ready thing. And you will just continue to see the same patterns and feel the same way until you're ready to do it.
Yeah. Hmm. And so I feel like to go along with that, this is a conversation that comes up a lot as somebody again in that liminal space and they're moving into their new identity. Boundaries are so important and setting that strong boundary is really important because it can help you to be more vulnerable. It can give you the confidence to move forward, to do some of the deeper maybe
more scratchy work that doesn't feel good when we're rubbing it up against our skin, right?
When it comes to boundaries, how do you currently set boundaries that allow you to be solid, grounded, rooted in the practice that you're doing in your everyday? Not maybe just with your clients or the work specifically in your business, but in your everyday life.
So all of that started with me because I had to get really serious with myself on what the boundaries were that I needed to place and why I needed to have them to begin with because I am a very giving person. Like I am the person that everybody reaches out to and they know that they can when they have something going on.
Candice Van Dertholen (35:51.464)
And so I have to be very mindful of the energy expenditure in those cases, or just being mindful of where my energy is. And so I would say boundaries really came from me needing to honor myself and understand what that looked like. What did that actually mean to me? And
giving myself the permission to do so, because that was the other thing that I wasn't really great at was the permission piece of like, it's okay if you don't answer someone right away, they will live, you know, they will, they will be okay. and I, you know, because I don't know about you, but like, I always put that pressure on myself to be there, show up, do all the things. And so I wouldn't say how I'm able to keep boundaries is understanding why they're important.
And understanding I'm not perfect at it. I don't need to be perfect at it. That's the other thing. Um, because trying to do things perfectly will actually stress you out probably way more than actually just knowing that you're going to every once in a while not have that. Um, so I say grace and understanding, then, um, just realizing that it's a process, it's an evolutionary process within us and we just continue to get better at upholding it.
This episode is brought to you in part by Fusionary Formulas Tumor Gold, which has become one of my go-tos when my body is feeling inflamed and it feels like it needs more support. Tansy Rodgers (38:32.81)
And so when it comes to the boundaries, I think that is such a beautiful way to put it, that it's this evolution. You know, I think back to the times where I was trying to put in more boundaries. And honestly, I look at that now compared to where I'm at, and it makes me laugh because I'm like, that was that was not that was angry. That was not very good execution of boundary setting.
but in the same breath is what I knew at that time and it's where I was at that time. And so to see where I'm at now is so much more different. My voice is different. It's just part of that evolution.
Yeah. Well, and this is one thing that I share often is that, especially when you're working through the foundational areas of our energy center. So root, sacral, solar, we're redefining all of that safety, security, the ability to connect in with oneself. And, you know, the sacral energy is so complex. You know, it's our passion, our purpose, our desire.
our creativity and our emotions, like that's big energy. And so when you're setting boundaries and you're learning who you are, there's a lot of emotions that you're still working through in order to get there. And I often think that we forget that we still have to process whatever we need to process. And you said it so beautifully. You're like, and it really is, that's where I was. Like that's where I was. That's what I thought assertiveness is.
often associated with boundaries. Like you have to be like firm and you have to be this, you know, mean person almost to have a boundary. And it's like, well, not really. It's just honoring yourself in a different way for the first time. And sometimes we do have to be assertive because we haven't learned how to have that language yet. But even thinking about the sacral energy, it's having any emotion is okay.
Candice Van Dertholen (40:36.034)
having any processing is okay. It's what you do with it that makes the difference and how we learn through it that that shifts and changes as we continue to step into this new version of ourselves. And it's kind of weird because there's like a new version, but an old version, but a remembered version. So it can get confusing. But, you know, when you're thinking about it, you're really rebuilding so much of who you know yourself to be. And that's just a process. It's a process of getting to know yourself.
Yeah. And so you brought up the root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus. love that. For the listeners that don't understand, those are the three chakras that really are human chakras, like our human experience chakras. It's the here and present now. And so how do you recommend when it comes to either building self-confidence,
setting stronger boundaries, living more in this grounded spirituality. How do you recommend balancing out either the roots, sacral, solar, whichever you think is the most important, or maybe all of them, so that you can have a better experience moving forward?
Hmm. So again, it's, it's the acknowledgement side of things. So what I often have like shared with clients is how to almost envision yourself walking into each energy center and feeling what it feels like. Does it feel heavy? Does it feel solid? Like, do you have a firm foundation when it's the root? Right. And, know, so being able to just tune into that energy first,
is how we really bring awareness to even, you know, continue to move through and be a part of these, these energy centers. and you know, for anyone that's like curious, know, the root, sacral and solar, you know, bridge into the heart to then connect us with the divine consciousness. Right. And so it's right in the middle is this heart space that we hold so much for our life, for others.
Candice Van Dertholen (42:49.946)
And when we're really firm in our understanding of who we are and what our passion, our purpose, our desire is, and we have this understanding that we're capable of doing it. So root being the safety, you know, the emotional and the passion and the desire of the sacral and the firm foundational knowing being the solar, we can then communicate this in a way that shares the journey with others.
that we feel this confidence and this clarity and we have it in a way that isn't rigid, it isn't rugged, it's literally just is. And it's not that our way is the only right way, it becomes our communication for what we believe. And then we're able to hear others in a different way and receive their energy differently. So that's why it's so important to build the foundation of you.
because then you show up in your world differently and you hear people differently, you meet people differently, you hold compassion where there wasn't, you hold understanding where you might've missed it before, and it gives you just a deeper insight into even the vision. So like the third eye, your vision for life, your vision for others in the world. so as you can see, like if we build here, it just creates such a better.
Experience all together.
which is really that definition of grounded spirituality. mean, right? Like you get that foundation strong and supported and all of a sudden everything else opens up the communication, your third eye, your connection to the divine. It's really that flow.
Candice Van Dertholen (44:40.696)
Yeah, well, cause you're no longer running from your existence. You're walking with, right? And that's the biggest difference is you start to see yourself as this divine being. And it doesn't mean that you don't go through like hardship and it's not like all super simple in life, but you know, you can move through anything. You know, you can have any major life decision come in and because you understand who you are, what you're
passionate about all the things, how you're connected in the world, you might not have the answer that very moment, but it will find you and you will be awakened and open to what's next. And I say that because like, just to give an example, my husband's in the military and about three weeks ago, we had this major surprise that the military is asking him to retire early.
because there's been all these cuts in the budget and his program specifically, like they've been cutting it anyway. And he has this 20 years of service, actually 31 total years of service. And so he just makes that mark where they're like, yep, we can save some money. So this was a huge change for us and a lot to process. And luckily we have a whole year until all of this takes place. But in the moment,
Because I was grounded and because I have my spiritual practice, I had the capacity to hold the space for him and let him process and let him move through things. And I mean, it's still a process. He's still going to be moving through emotion because it's just part of his journey. But then we were able to together take a look at things and say, okay, how can this potentially be a much better outcome than it feels like right now? Because
When things happen in our life, they can feel like setbacks and disappointments and like, am I not good enough? Or, you know, what am I going to do next? My whole identity is here. And so it's really important for us to process the layers of that. And that doesn't mean you to process it in one day because you're human. We just don't do that. And so but when we can do a little bit of the processing, then we can start to think, OK, now that I've let my emotions flow through me.
Candice Van Dertholen (47:00.074)
What is the potential? What is the possibility? And what can I allow to be easy? And so I share that because I know so many people right now are going through transition after transition and change after modification. And it can feel very unsteady, unstable. And so that's why it's even more important to tune inwards to you because then when these things happen, you can slowly process and find the way forward.
Instead of running from your existence, you're walking with it. I love that quote. I love that. Because it's so brilliantly described and such a great visual for people to understand that it's not what we're trying to attain and get to.
Thank you.
Tansy Rodgers (47:51.222)
It's really about where we're at right here in the moment and what we're doing with those moments. So I love it. Well, Candice, I want to switch the conversation just a little bit. And I want to talk about energy, businesses, and careers, our careers, right? Because all of this plays a big factor. Now, this may sound very separate for some of the listeners, but in reality, this all just meshes and just beautifully
bridges together because how we interact with something that we do eight to 12 hours a day is going to ultimately describe how we feel as a human being, where we're at in our spirituality, how grounded we are, but also our overall well-being. And so let's talk about energy and businesses and your career. Can you talk about why this
makes a difference in not only the growth of your career, but also in the health and well-being of yourself.
this is one of my favorite topics because I work with so many entrepreneurs who come in. They have pretty much nearly exhausted their finances, trying to figure out how to do this, how to make their business grow, how to do all the things. And they've built the funnel. They've built the course. They've done the website. They've, they've done literally everything without any return on investment or very minimal.
And when they get to me, they're like, I don't understand why this is not all working. And what we find is that they're doing things out of alignment. So they're doing things that don't feel good to them or that they've had to really burn themselves out with. And let me just tell you, like when you're sitting in front of doing something, so you're creating a course or you're creating anything, the physical energy that you're putting into that is felt on the other side.
Candice Van Dertholen (49:52.61)
So if you're coming in burnt out, trying to force yourself to create something you don't even want to create, the people receiving it feel that they don't want to be a part of it either. And so when we're in tune with what we actually desire, and it's not saying that you can't do all these things, but have it in a way that actually aligns for you in your season of life. It doesn't mean it won't grow. Doesn't mean it won't expand as you do. But
If we can align our energy, then we can work on the energy of the business because that's the other factor is that they come in and they're very disconnected from their business because of the burnout, because of the disappointments. And there's a lot of resistance to their actual entity, the business itself. So every business has a location, a birthday, a name, a purpose, and an energy signature.
And so we being the owners are very connected with this. And so if we are resistant to it because it has caused us turmoil, then we weren't going to see the money coming in. We just can't because we're physically angry with our business results. I've worked with several private practice owners, so physicians that have a private practice. And there's a lot of changes going on right now, right?
So like reimbursements are a thing and COVID was a thing. And so what we go in and when we see the disconnect between financials being aligned is their literal resistance to the industry. And so we have to go in and we have to clear that energetic patterning and the energetic remembrance so that they can show up and do the job that they love to do and be able to allow themselves to have more patience because remember, you got to think.
I mean, the prime example is how overrun were these physicians during that time period. So more means I'm going to be burned out. I'm not going to see my family. I'm not going to have this or that. And so again, it's about seeing where these patterns and cycles have been created. The flip side can be if you're in your career, same thing. If you are burnout, if you are tired, or even if you're misaligned, like you always know when you're meant to move on.
Candice Van Dertholen (52:12.652)
And it is always us that stays and holds on because we're like, but so much money or it's doing really well and blah, But if you're miserable, then that's your sign, right? It's your sign. You need to do work. It doesn't mean you need to go and like Jerry Maguire quit. Okay. We can, we can do so in a balanced way, but, we do have to actually take a look at it is what I'm saying.
So because sometimes it's just a little bit of energy work that you need to find that inner alignment. So is there resistance to the corporation? Is it the boss? Where is the resistance to being happy? Where is the resistance for the wealth coming in? And that's how I look at it when I'm looking at business and careers. Where's the resistance and what is that resistance telling us? Because sometimes it means you need to pivot either in your business.
Is there a misalignment in your schedule? there a missile? You know, where are those misalignments happening so that you no longer have this resistance to calling in the very thing that you're doing all this work for? So yes, that's one thing. How does all of that resonate?
I love that. I have some things to share when you're done. But yes, I love this. I've experienced this. And the things that I'm going to share are some of those experiences and why it made, why it makes a huge, huge difference. So please continue on.
No, go ahead. Why don't you share? I would love to hear what you have to say on this. Like, I love it.
Tansy Rodgers (53:44.652)
Okay, so here's why this makes such a big difference and why I know what you're saying is so true. I know, I know when I feel more burned out, I know when I feel more tired, I know when I push myself to write my emails, to do a show, to see a client, I know when there's gonna be a better or a not so good response.
I know. And so I become extremely aware of that. I, as much as I can, I try to only write my emails when I'm feeling more grounded, when I have plenty of time and expansion, when I don't feel rushed, when I feel a little bit more joyous. I purposefully, every time I do a lot of shows for the product side of my work. And so whenever I do shows, I work really hard.
to play great music on the way there, to give myself pep talks, to change my perspective. I have a certain soundtrack that I listen to every time I go to a show because it makes me feel a certain way. And I will tell you, on those days, those weekends, that I don't feel like I can quite get into it, my sales.
Right.
And not because I'm doing anything wrong or people aren't into the product or whatever it is. My sales don't do so well because I can feel my energy is shut down.
Tansy Rodgers (55:27.63)
I'm not as magnetic.
Yeah. Yeah. And so it makes such a large impact, not only in the way that your energy is in your career, your business and what you're trying to create and put out into the world, but also it makes a big difference when you know, when you can connect into the energy of your career. And I use the word career because not everybody here is business owners. Right. And so, but when you can connect into that energy of whatever that is.
That makes a big difference too. I've learned, because I've gone through this process, Candice, I've learned. Be you complete. Her name is Cora. And Cora is here to create more fun and lightheartedness in the lives and the hearts of people, to bring more love, to bring more empathy, to bring more compassion. I do it through the perspective and the landscape of holistic wellness and crystal work and energy healing, right?
Regardless, it doesn't really matter what my modality is. It is all about more fun, more love, more joy, more expansion, more authenticity. When I close my eyes and I see Quora, I literally see this bohemian kind of woman just dancing and laughing and having a really great time. And when I'm not honoring that,
I can feel her shut down. I can feel her almost get sad and, and, and.
Tansy Rodgers (57:06.126)
and bring forth that desire, that wish to get back into alignment with who she is. And I've learned now, Candice, when I am creating things, when I am creating anything, be it pieces of jewelry that I'm making or a program that I'm creating, if it does not feel lighthearted, joyful, and fun, it doesn't feel in alignment.
and I can feel that difference. It's so interesting. I love this conversation because I practiced and I played with this and it really does make a big difference.
It makes a massive difference. And you can feel it with everything you were talking about our health. Like when you take care of your energy, your health gets better. And we can only do that when we're actually paying attention to these things, because as some people might not know, but like all of this work has been measured to help our health, to help us come out of this stress mode that we've been living in.
and to really come back into relaxation. I have a client who every single session, his watch registers a nap every single session. It's kind of funny actually. We like get excited to check, but it's just because it's the first time you're allowing that space. And so again, I think that's why all of this work really gives us like a better life because we're truly tuning in, slowing down, giving ourselves a break.
And then seeing again, where are these connection points and how am I showing up in my career? And if I'm, if I'm like miserable, how can I shift? How can I look at things in a different perspective to then make that shift? So.
Tansy Rodgers (58:53.918)
Well, okay, so let's expand on that. You know, I've learned different techniques that work for me to be able to connect into the entity of my business and the entity of my work. But not everybody knows that. And so if a person is coming forward and wants to really place attention to meet this entity, to meet this career energy,
What would you suggest for them to really pay attention to first and how do they connect with that energy?
So I always encourage clients to connect in with their energy first. So if listeners could see me, they would see that I'm holding my two hands together and to really feel into the energetic flow because that's how we remember that we are a part of everything. And as soon as you can start to feel this, you you can just start to envision the sun connecting all the way straight through your body and going down into the earth, which then roots you into the earth, reminding you of the support that is beneath you.
and you pull this energy up into your body as well as it just kind of cycles through. And as you're just paying attention to that energetic flow, you can almost feel your body go into this calmer state of awareness. Well, once you get that really in tune and you're paying attention and practice, like knowing it's going to take a minute to get into this just because it's the first time, then you can pull it inward, you know, like straight into the heart space.
And from there, you just envision as if you're connecting into the energy of the organization. And if it feels heavy, know that that's normal because you're sifting through the energy of it. But what is your energetic connection to it? And that's the signal you need to pay attention to because then you can ask, why do I feel this way? And sometimes we don't always like the answer because we already know the answer, but we just haven't given it space.
Candice Van Dertholen (01:00:54.978)
So just know that it's okay. I worked with a client who works in a very specific, well, financial industry, and she was trying to really grow her wealth. And we went in to look at the energy patterns, and what it was is she was resistant to the abundance flow, so she's a portfolio manager, because of the energy signatures that...
coming through the money, meaning where the money had been before. And so she wasn't calling any more wealth in for her because she was like, nope, I don't want the contracts that are associated with that. Like, no thanks. And so we had to rewrite the program in that money has been everywhere. It is not where money has been. It is what you choose to do and honor it with. I mean, you can always choose to walk away from a industry that is not supportive of your
intentions for life. So keep that in mind, but you don't have to walk away if you know that that will serve a purpose for the community. So I think it's an integrity thing on that, on that line. But you know, for her, she had to open the space to see that money has literally been everywhere and it is not her choice. She's literally the financial manager of what's coming in. So kind of shifted that energy there, but to go back,
It's connecting in first, then connecting in as if you're just envisioning, you can just think of a picture that reminds you of this, where you work and what is the energetic connection? What is it making you feel in your body? Even asking yourself, where do I feel this in my body? And what's the story behind it? Because sometimes it's the organization and sometimes it's you.
And so that leads me then into the whole thought of if somebody, let's say somebody has a business or maybe in the organization they work for, they're in charge of making some big decisions, right? How do you distinguish between this intuition versus impulse when it comes to having to make these decisions? Maybe it is pricing decisions, maybe it is launching new programs, maybe it is sales. How do you know the difference?
Candice Van Dertholen (01:03:15.502)
I just did a workshop on this this weekend about trusting our intuition because a lot of our intuitive knowing comes from knowing ourselves. And so the more and more we understand ourselves, the easier it is to see things with greater clarity, meaning you can see the vision, you can see the intuitive understanding, and you have the right people in place to help you make those decisions.
because you can trust them. So if you do have to make a decision unless you don't have anybody there, you can tune in and ask and know without a shadow of a doubt what you need to do. And it really is building the muscle and the connection between your intuition and yourself. Because again, we live very disconnected in this world. And so the more and more we can embody who we are, then we can start to trust what we're intuiting.
And you can always use different tools to help you get the answer. Like if anybody's ever worked with a pendulum, if you have a question, you can always ask yes or no. is, I tracking right? If I'm really struggling, and then go for a walk. Get out of your environment before you make any major decision. That will help you tenfold as well.
And I feel like too, I feel like too when it comes to trusting intuition, it's really all about where you're at in that groundedness, where you're at in your perception, where you're feeling aligned or misaligned, right? And so sometimes, and maybe I'm speaking from a a personal experience, but sometimes,
It's really that point right when I get onto my laptop or right when I step into work or I'm just getting ready to get everything started. I feel like there needs to be some kind of attunement. There needs to be some kind of grounding that needs to happen in order for everything else to go smoothly so I can intuit what I need to intuit. And so do you have a recommendation, maybe three steps, maybe a little bit of a ritual?
Tansy Rodgers (01:05:31.202)
that can help people attune even right before they open their laptop or walk into that meeting.
Yeah, so the biggest thing is going back to that practice of the heart space. So the heart space is our conscious connection to all that is. So it's how we can calibrate. We can really recalibrate ourselves. because it takes us out of the egoic state of understanding too. So like what decisions I'm making really impact all the things.
But just sitting with the energy of your within your heart space and allowing this stillness and calmness to run through you. So before I head into like big meetings, I will literally just sit there for about 90 seconds and ask, OK, how can I support this conversation? How can I listen better? And how can I be a part of the collective movement going forward? So.
I just sit with my energy for a moment and allow myself to center, to ground. And I'm physically doing the same practice I just walked through is that I'm imagining as if I am part of all that is. I'm just remembering constantly, like when I'm going into this, it serves a higher purpose, which is all new to me. I think I've only been doing this for the last year and a half. And that was the biggest shift I made for myself is to just remember that everything we do
really affects so much more. And it can be something as simple as 90 seconds of just tuning in and calming the nervous system and allowing yourself to be fully present.
Tansy Rodgers (01:07:10.732)
Hmm. Yeah, and so you said about how this is something that's still fairly new to you You know that you've been practicing this for about the last year and a half
I'm sure that a lot of this really expanded just by you being in that grounded spirituality, right? Like being able to expand into that. Something interesting that the listener may not know about you is that you are on the board of the Center for Death Education. so you're probably wondering, well, where's this going? Right? I'm really curious. Being on that board, learning about
death, learning, helping to educate about death. What has death education really taught you about this clean spiritual practice, this clean spiritual expansion that we've talked about this whole time so far? How you can bring it into the concepts, maybe bring it into this work of
aligning with your business, aligning with your career, aligning with, grounding with your spirituality.
Yeah, a lot of it has just reminded me of how unprepared we are for death, meaning not the actual afterwards. I think that we don't need to necessarily be prepared for that. I think it's more of the earthly existence that we are not necessarily prepared for. And that just further acknowledges that we really need to lean into
Candice Van Dertholen (01:08:52.468)
what are the most important aspects of my life and how can I integrate further everything that I'm doing so that I can be more present, so that I can live in this experience and so that I can take away from this experience and give back in this divine reciprocal energy because we spend so much of our life in our career, in our job, in our business and
very little of that time gets expended to our desires, our family, and those that we care about. And when you're in the middle of the process of like a diagnosis or something that has shifted your whole world, we really don't want to get to that point before we choose to honor our lives. And it's often death that makes us think of that. Like you might only think of it for a moment when you lose someone, you're like,
I might not be here forever. And it's that reminder of that. And it's not that we need to live in fear of it. It's more that why not appreciate the life that we have and find if we're not feeling that way, find the way to get there because this life isn't ever guaranteed. And we know this, but we can just choose to honor and show up and be in it as best as we can.
Yeah, and as you were talking, all I could think about was how just knowing that, being educated on the death experience really brings us back into that present place of expanding into our purpose, our passion, being aligned, what we want here and now while we're still healthy and can do the work.
Yeah, absolutely. And it's easy to think that we have more time. That's the thing. And then you, you know, we realize, oh my man, it's like almost October now, you know, and this whole year's going by. So, and I, and having adult kids myself, I will say that like, you realize how fast life goes once your kids hit that graduation period. And, you know, it's just, you start to see it.
Candice Van Dertholen (01:11:08.364)
the older that you get and the more more mature you get, whatever. But and again, it's still a practice of remembrance for everyone. So.
So thinking about all of this, stepping into alignment, stepping into grounded spirituality, having a deeper connection to your purpose and your passion, and doing that in this human experience, not just floating around in the spiritual ether, right? What have you seen has been some beautiful, visible changes when people really commit to that path?
Maybe this is your own personal experience or people that you've worked with. But I would love some visuals so that the listener can know, why do I want to do this? Why is this important? How will this change my life?
So I will say that I have a few clients who have come to me in their later ages of life. So I have one woman that's 77. She started working with me for physical ailment, know, reasonings. And what it's done for her is the ability to see herself for the first time in the fullness of it. And she's 77. Like she's like, I wish I would have done this work sooner.
because I can only imagine how different my relationships would have been because she's holding compassion for her parents who are no longer here in a way that she never realized she could. She's holding compassion for herself for the first time and letting go of all of the feelings of disappointments or the ways that she felt like she short came in her life for the very first time. And as a result, her physical body is healing.
Candice Van Dertholen (01:12:59.03)
And she's like, I have walked around with this disease, entire, like since she was in her late twenties. And it was all just the, the holding on to who she really was. Her body has just been physically fighting for itself her entire life. And so to get to see her vibrancy come back, she has more color in her face. Like her doctors are showing her, okay, here's where your body is physically healing. And it's just this.
whole new way of her energy shifting and she gets to enjoy her life with greater ease and just more vibrancy, like I said. And again, she's 77 doing this work. So it's truly never too late to dive into this. And, you know, I remember thinking even as a practitioner, she came to me and I was like, you know, I was so excited because it, we can do this work at any agency such
different results, right? It doesn't matter what stage of life you're in. But all transitions in life create this opportunity for growth and expansion in a new way. And so seeing her move forward in her life in a way that is supporting her and her family has been an honor. I've also seen different clients like really move their business forward and they're just like in tears because they were
literally coming to me with the, tax consultant says I have to make money this year or I have to figure something else out. And to go from that to seeing new opportunities come in, that's a moment of joy that they didn't know they were going to experience. You know, I've seen estranged relationships while they're still in process of coming together, they are getting easier to walk through.
Because I don't think that any of this work just makes the magic wand and it all just gets better. It's a process of working through the things. But to see the potential and the possibility coming forward for people who have had disconnection and disjointed relationships in so many areas of their life, finding peace, finding connection and finding healing for themselves. That's what lights me up. Right. It's like the change in the world that
Candice Van Dertholen (01:15:22.454)
I wish I could have had sooner too, you And so those are just some of the examples of people truly being able to hold that compassion, feel the understanding and move through their experience that I get to be a part of.
Thank you for having this conversation today. We need to talk about this more. We need to talk about the deeper impact because all of the holistic health hacks and tips and things that you can do to be a better human being, to be a healthier human being, all this stuff is great. But if we're not talking about the energy side of it,
it's just never really going to take. So this is such a great conversation. Now, before we talk about where people can find you, let's just have a little bit of fun. Let's do some rapid fire questions. These are just meant for you to think whatever comes off the top of your head to just allow it to come out. And there doesn't need to be any explanation if you don't want one. All right? All right. All right.
Three. right, number one. What song instantly drops you into your body?
gosh. Okay. So here lately, and this is hilarious to me, but have you heard of Abel Hart? He did like all of these affirmation songs. And so I'm feeling lucky just came to mind. So I'm going to run with it. But he, he's always like, I'm feeling lucky and confident. And he like goes into this whole mantra.

and it just gets me like moving and like excited and I like joke around with my husband when I'm playing it, cause he absolutely just like laughs at me, but it just instantly gets me like feeling movement within my body. So.
Candice Van Dertholen (01:17:24.494)
Yeah, it's so fun. I'll have this stuff later.
Candice Van Dertholen (01:17:36.114)
Mm-hmm my time boundary I think when and I say this for myself because when I'm like this person who really thrives on a schedule So I like to get up at the same time of day I like to do everything at the same time of day because it helps me do the things and here in this season since our move I've really had to flexible with that and so knowing that for me the time boundary is that I don't have to be so rigid with it So that's really helpful
me.

okay. So I always drink a glass of water, like chugging it, cause I'm really bad about drinking water anyway, if I don't just chug it, but I will chug a glass of water. And it's mainly because the more hydrated we are, the easier it is for us to connect into all of this work. But I would say that's definitely the weird one. Cause I'm literally like chugging water.

my gosh, so many things going on. So I am most active on LinkedIn and you can find me on Instagram. I'm on there too, so you can stalk my life there. I love it. Candice Vandertholen and Candice underscore Elizabeth.co. But the things that I have going on right now is that I have another workshop in my workshop series all about connecting in with our energy and our intuition.
I'm going to be doing several workshops over the next several months because these are all of the things that I've learned in working with all of the clients I've had this year. So over 60 clients this year who have all been new to energy work for the most part. I have a couple of practitioners that I work with, but for the most part, I work with people who are brand new to this practice. And so what I've done is I'm pulling together all of the things that
similarities that I talk through all of the time and putting that together so that people can come together and learn together. So I have that going on. I'm hosting my retreat this week. That's exciting. And I'm doing more retreat facilitation work throughout this next year, but that's all I have in store right now. So.

Hmm. So what I would like to just say is that you are so worthy to be here, no matter what you're going through in life. Like you are always worthy to be here and it's never too late to be what you might've been. That is a quote that I live by and it's George Elliott, a pen name, but yeah, it's never too late to do something new.
